FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (9/20/25) – Arkansas State volleyball (7-4, 0-0 SBC) completed a clean sweep of the field at the Razorback Invitational on Saturday afternoon at Barnhill Arena, defeating Arkansas (4-7, 0-0 SEC) in a 3-1 (25-17, 25-15, 21-25, 25-22) decision.
Kaitlin Whitlock led A-State with 21 kills and three service aces on a .391 hitting percentage while posting 11 digs.
Daedrianna Cail also reached double digits in kills, posting 11 alongside a team-leading five blocks.
As a team, the Scarlet and Black recorded 56 kills on a .328 percentage and set a new season high with 19 blocks.
The Red Wolves jumped out to a four-point advantage in the opening set and carried it until kills from Whitlock and
Haley Glunz paired with block assists from Cail and Payton Van Veen made the score 12-6. The offensive surge continued as seven of the next nine rallies fell in the Scarlet and Black's favor.
The lead expanded to 11 before the Razorbacks began to rally, closing the gap to 23-16 before a kill from Van Veen and an error from the opposition ended the set.
Both sides exchanged the first 11 rallies before a service error from Arkansas sparked a 5-1 run. The Red Wolves dropped two rallies before responding with three consecutive kills capped by a service ace from
Mia Maloney to claim a 15-8 advantage.
The momentum remained in A-State's favor as a service ace from
Valeria Ortiz resulted in another double-digit lead. The advantage would not be yielded as the Scarlet and Black claimed their second set of the afternoon.
The Red Wolves surrendered six of the first eight rallies of the third set before chipping away and tying it at 10-10 on a kill from Whitlock. A-State moved ahead 18-15, but an offensive surge from Arkansas erased it and resulted in a 21-25 decision.
The first 18 rallies of the fourth set were evenly split before a kill from Lewis sparked a 6-0 scoring run capped by back-to-back attack errors. The Razorback response was stonewalled by a kill from Cail before another for Collum paired with block assists from Lewis and Glunz made the score 20-16.
Both sides traded two rallies before Arkansas won four of the next five, making the difference one point. Whitlock ended the final rally bid with two kills, securing the Red Wolves' third consecutive victory.
