ASU Cross Country Completes Competition At The Chile Pepper XC Festival

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (10/18/09) – The Arkansas State cross country teams completed competition at the Chile Pepper XC Festival on Saturday in Fayetteville, Ark. The men's team finished 21st in the field while the women's team came in 25th.

ASU faced some of the stiffest competition it has this season, as the field included teams for the Big 12, Bit Ten and SEC.

“Overall the meet was a success we ran faster times than we did last year,” said ASU head coach Lon Badeaux. “We now have to turn our attention to getting ready for the conference meet in two weeks.”

Henry Ndichu and James Ngwiri were the top two finishers in the field for Arkansas State, completing the sloppy course in 73rd and 80th places, respectively.

Bailey Bunyan (146th), Michael Miller (159th) and David Mills (160th) finished out the team scoring for the Red Wolves.

On the women's side, ASU had four runners place within 20-places of each other. Samantha Salinas was the top finisher for ASU completing the course in 114th place, followed by Chelsea Weaver at 123 and Sydney Foreman at 126. Mary Edwards rounded out the team scoring placing at 146th.

The race was the final tune-up before the Sun Belt conference meet in Monroe, La. on Oct. 31.
