A-State Caps Off Weekend At UAB, Southern Illinois

BIRMINGHAM, Ala./CARBONDALE, Ill. (1/25/20) – Arkansas State track and field closed out another strong weekend of action at the Green and Gold Invitational and the Don DeNoon Invitational on Saturday.

In total, A-State amassed 12 collegiate-best marks across the two days, as well as six season bests on Saturday. Three Red Wolves claimed the top spot in their respective events – Jermie Walker (200m), Briana Hardiman (400m) and Grace Flowers (shot put). The Red Wolves also tallied 11 top-three finishes on the day.

Flowers' stellar season continued by winning the shot put in Carbondale, throwing 15.09m (49-6.25). Eron Carter placed fourth on the men's side with a season-best 15.75m (51-8.25).

The day in Birmingham began with Matthew Keown clearing a season-best 4.74m (15-6.5) in the men's pole vault that was won by former A-State All-American Michael Carr. Keown's finish made him the top-placing collegian in the field. In the women's pole vault, Callie Hicks placed third with a clearance of 3.83m (12-6.75) while Nada Buntic vaulted a personal-best 3.68m (12-0.75) to finish fourth.

Osereme Erewele posted a fifth-place finish in the women's 60m that was won by another A-State alum, former NCAA champion Sharika Nelvis. In the 60m hurdles, Camryn Newton-Smith was the top collegian, earning a third-place finish with a time of 8.75.

Jermie Walker continued his strong season, nearly matching his collegiate best with a run of 21.71 to win the men's 200m.
