STARKVILLE, Miss. (3/24/23) – Five athletes matched or bettered previous outdoor bests in the first two days of the Al Schmidt Bulldog Relays, helping the Arkansas State track and field teams start the outdoor season strong.
Aimar Palma Simo opened the meet Thursday by winning the men's hammer throw with a toss of 67.03m (219-11). Jacob Tracy placed ninth with a mark of 46.52m (152-7).
On Friday, Tracy notched a fourth-place result in the men's discus throw, tossing the implement 50.53m (165-9), while Willem Coertzen recorded a mark of 45.85m (150-5) to place seventh.
Evangelynn Harris placed third in the women's discus throw with a throw of 48.04m (157-7), with Selase Sampram finishing fourth with a career-best mark of 46.83m (153-7).
Megan Knowling finished tied for first in the women's high jump and matched her outdoor best, clearing 1.65m (5-5.0). Izzy Daines and Sydney Lane cleared 1.60m (5-3.0) to tie for sixth.
In the men's high jump, Colby Eddowes placed fourth with a height of 2.03m (6-8.0).
A-State fielded a pair of quartets in the women's 4x800-meter relay, finishing third and fourth, respectively, with times of 9:09.81 and 9:15.28.
Seven of the top 10 finishers in the women's 5000 meters donned the Scarlet and Black, led by freshman Anna Hunter's first-place mark of 18:17.27. Runner-up Jaybe Shufelberger crossed in 18:17.72, with Sarah Trammel placing third with a time of 18:17.74. Pauline Meyer finished in 18:17.83 to place fourth, with Maggie Hunter placing seventh with a time of 18:44.83.
In the men's 5000 meters, Dawson Mayberry led five Red Wolves in the top five, running a career-best 14:57.86 to win. Ryan Parson finished second with a personal-best time of 15:02.23, with Grayson Young following in third with a collegiate-best mark of 15:04.73. Nati Enright notched a fourth-place time of 15:18.43 while Nathan Herbst clocked a time of 15:20.37 to place fifth.
John Carder ran a time of 15:54.67 to place 10th, while Zeke McCain finished 14th with a mark of 16:24.37.
