AZUSA/LONG BEACH, Calif. (4/16/23) – Rahel Broemmel broke her own school record in the women's 1500 meters late Saturday night to cap off the Arkansas State track and field's stellar weekend in Southern California.
The freshman clocked a time of 4:20.21 in the invitational section of the event at the Bryan Clay Invitational, with Elizabeth Martin crossing in 4:33.24. In the open section, Kayla Wade recorded a career-best mark of 4:30.61 to move up to fifth in school history, while Cheyenne Melvin finished in 4:33.32, ranking ninth at A-State.
In the men's 1500 meters, Grayson Young's time of 3:49.85 ranks ninth in program history. Cash Kunkel finished in a career-best 3:53.82, while Ryan Parson and Hannes Fahl finished in 3:56.92 and 3:59.18, respectively.
On the second day of the Beach Invitational in Long Beach, Bradley Jelmert moved up to eighth in school history in the pole vault, winning with a clearance of 5.47m (17-11.25). Trace South vaulted 4.72m (15-5.75) to place 27th.
Lauren Beauchamp matched her season best in the women's pole vault, clearing 3.92m (12-10.25). Avery Shell recorded a height of 3.47m (11-4.5) to place 29th.
On the straightaway, rookie Danarrion Ard placed fifth in the men's 100 meters, running 10.37 to rank eighth in school history, while fellow freshman Myles Thomas placed sixth with a mark of 10.38. Thomas later placed 16th in the men's 200 meters (21.68), ahead of Jermie Walker's 25th-place mark of 21.87
Jonae Cook clocked a season-best time of 11.51 in the women's 100 meters to place fourth.
Will Glass notched a seventh-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles, crossing in 14.22, while Tyra Nabors placed 10th in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.75. Camryn Newton-Smith placed 23rd with a mark of 14.11.
In the men's 800 meters, Lasse Funck placed seventh with a time of 1:52.82.
Evangelynn Harris registered a throw of 15.24m (50-0) to place ninth in the shot put, with Selase Sampram following in 12th with a toss of 14.89m (48-10.25). Sampram later uncorked a throw of 45.02 (147-8) in the discus throw.
Jacob Tracy finished 14th in the men's discus throw (52.84m/173-4) and 17th in the shot put (17.00m/55-9.25), while Willem Coertzen tossed the discus 46.99m (154-2) to go along with a shot put distance of 16.41m (53-10.25).
A-State's men's 4x100-meter relay quartet placed second, combining to run a time of 40.73.
