A-State Track & Field Opens Action at Commodore Challenge

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (1/12/24) – Several Arkansas State track and field athletes competed on Friday in the first day of the Commodore Challenge, hosted by Vanderbilt.

A pair of athletes posted indoor bests on the day, with Colby Eddowes doing so in the pole vault and Matthew Dunsworth ending the day with a collegiate-best time in the 5000 meters.

Eddowes and John Carswell tied for 10th in the men's pole vault, clearing 4.53m (14-10.25).

In the women's long jump, Izzy Daines recorded a distance of 5.28m (17-4) while freshman Miranda Burgett leaped 5.11m (16-9.25). Alden Wetzel jumped 6.20m (20-4.25) in the men's long jump competition.

The freshman Dunsworth placed third in the men's 5000 meters with his collegiate-best mark of 15:19.22, while Zeke McCain placed sixth with a time of 16:17.16.

Sophey Pope (19:46.47) and Erika Krueger (20:03.22) placed fourth and fifth, respectively, in the women's 5000-meter race. Emma Guadagnoli placed 13th in the women's 600 meters (1:40.68) and Hannah McLaughlin clocked a time of 3:09.72 to place 22nd in the 1000 meters.
