Ogbemudia Breaks Weight Throw School Record Friday at Vanderbilt

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (1/19/24) – Michelle Ogbemudia broke the school record in the women's weight throw on Friday, highlighting a strong first day of action for Arkansas State track and field at the Vanderbilt Invitational.

The newcomer uncorked a toss of 20.73m (68-0.25) in the invite section of the event, breaking the previous record by nearly a foot and a half.

In the men's weight throw, freshman Noa Isaia notched a runner-up finish with a throw of 18.21m (59-9), which ranks eighth in school history.

Colby Eddowes moved up to a tie for fourth in program history in the long jump, placing second in the event with a jump of 7.68m (25-2.5). AJ Allen leaped a career-best 5.09m (16-8.5) in the women's long jump to place 16th overall, while Alexis Taylor placed 21st in the seeded section with a mark of 5.37m (17-7.5).

Later in the day, Elizabeth Martin finished second in the women's 5000 meters, running a career-best 17:06.59 to rank sixth in A-State indoor history. Olivia Walter followed in fourth with a time of 17:31.40 while Ivanna Hargis ran 19:48.57 to place 24th. In the men's race, Coleman Wilson clocked an indoor-best 15:05.23 in a 17th-place result.

Bradley Jelmert claimed the top spot in the men's pole vault, clearing 5.50m (18-0.5). In the open section, John Carswell placed sixth with a clearance of 4.47m (14-8).

Izzy Daines and Kaci Andrus registered top-3 finishes in the women's high jump, with Daines clearing an indoor-best 1.62m (5-3.75) and Andrus jumping 1.56m (5-1.25). Ashley Guadamuz placed eighth with a mark of 1.48m (4-10.25). Kenyon Parker placed 12th in the men's high jump with a height of 1.92m (6-3.5).

In the men's distance medley relay, the Red Wolves posted a mark of 10:06.05 that now stands ninth all-time in school history, while a women's quartet registered a third-place mark of 12:18.95.

Spencer Taylor recorded a ninth-place mark in the men's 200 meters, ahead of two other Red Wolves, including Handre Jonker, who clocked a career-best 22.66. Tyra Nabors ran a collegiate-best 25.80 in the women's race, placing 29th.
