LOUISVILLE, Ky. (1/27/24) – Colby Eddowes broke his own school and Sun Belt Conference record in the heptathlon on Saturday to close out a strong two days for the Arkansas State track and field teams at the PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational.
Eddowes placed second overall with 5,821 points – a mark that stands among the nation's best. Freshman Alden Wetzel finished 11th with 4,643 points.
Bradley Jelmert won the elite section of the men's pole vault with a clearance of 5.52m (18-1.25). Trace South placed 11th in the open section, clearing 4.72m (15-5.75).
Cash Kunkel clocked a time of 4:08.87 in the men's mile to rank fifth in school history and earn a fourth-place result. Jacob Lawrence (4:14.03) and Noah McMurtrey (4:15.76) also recorded collegiate-best times in the event. In the women's mile, Elizabeth Martin placed sixth with a time of 4:59.97 and Mary Beth Bailey ran a personal-best 5:03.76 to place 10th.
Willem Coertzen finished third in the men's shot put with a toss of 17.78m (58-4), ahead of Chris Boyd, who hurled the implement a collegiate-best 16.44m (53-11.25) in an eighth-place result. Menachem Chen placed 12th with a throw of 15.38m (50-5.5) while Noa Isaia notched a career-best throw of 14.01m (45-11.75) to place 19th.
In the women's shot put, Selase Sampram placed third with a top throw of 15.00m (49-2.5). Michelle Ogbemudia finished fifth with a mark of 14.83m (48-8) while Nyaluet Diew (12.82m/42-0.75) and Liya Guy (11.06m/36-3.5) placed 11th and 20th, respectively.
Kenyon Parker placed sixth in the men's 60-meter hurdles, running a time of 8.13 in the final round. In the prelims, Parker ran 8.08 to win his heat and automatically qualify.
Matthew Williams posted a triple jump mark of 13.53m (44-4.75) to place 17th.

Arkansas State returns to action with a pair of meets next weekend, traveling to the New Mexico Collegiate Classic in Albuquerque (Feb. 2-3) and the South Alabama Invitational (Feb. 4) in Birmingham, Ala.
