Red Wolves Cap Alumni Classic with Nine Event Victories Saturday

JONESBORO, Ark. (4/26/25) – After tallying 10 event titles Friday, Arkansas State track and field added nine more victories Saturday at the A-State Track and Field Complex to cap the Alumni Classic.

Menachem Chen won both the men's shot put and men's discus. He threw 18.11m (59-5.0) in the shot put, which moved him to sixth in program history. In the discus, Chen hurled 55.70m (182-9) for the event crown.

Chris Boyd finished second behind Chen in the shot put, throwing 17.57m (57-7.75), while Alden Wetzel (12.97m/42-6.75) and Colby Eddowes (12.43m/40-9.25) threw career bests to place fifth and sixth.

Boyd placed fourth in the discus, throwing a season-best 51.71m (169-8). Eddowes was ninth (39.46m/129-6) and Wetzel was 11th (39.17m/128-6), with Cameron Slavin following in 12th (38.20m/125-4).

Tyra Nabors and Izzy Daines went 1-2 in the 100-meter hurdles, with Nabors running a time of 13.61 that is fifth in school history and Daines clocking a personal-best 14.39.

Eddowes followed with an event crown in the 110-meter hurdles, running 13.71. Jourdan Clements was fourth (14.84) and Kenyon Parker (14.85) fifth, while Wetzel posted a season-best time of 15.14 to place sixth.

Michelle Ogbemudia won the women's shot put, throwing 16.16m (53-0.25) while Liya Guy placed fifth with a collegiate-best mark of 12.34m (40-5.75). Guy later placed third in the women's discus, throwing a season-best 44.51m (146-0), and Ogbemudia was fourth with a season-best throw of 43.57m (142-11).

Zeke McCain won the men's 5000 meters, running a career-best 15:27.86. Matthew Dunsworth crossed in 15:59.63, placing third.

Three of four Red Wolves in the women's 400 meters clocked career bests, led by champion Jada Buggs' time of 55.24. Kneila Watson ran a collegiate-best 57.06 in her fourth-place result, while Je'Breiya Chapman (58.31) placed seventh and Olivia Dixon (personal-best 59.28) was 10th.

In the women's 100 meters, Reneisha Andrews sprinted a season-best 11.84 in her event win, with Keniya Simpson (12.05) coming in third. AJ Allen followed in eighth with a collegiate-best 12.36 with Hanyla Milligan (12.54) placing ninth.

Carly Pujol won the women's pole vault with a clearance of 4.06m (13-3.75), with KG Ryan coming in third with a collegiate-best height of 3.72m (12-2.5). Both Kaci Andrus and McKenna Hall posted season bests, clearing 3.62m (11-10.5) and 3.32m (10-10.75) in fourth- and sixth-place finishes, respectively.  

Devyn O'Daniel ran a personal-best 17:39.38 in a runner-up finish in the women's 5000 meters. Ivanna Haris (18:38.13) was third, Sophey Pope (personal-best 18:53.18) placed fourth and Abigail Tomberlin (19:23.03) finished fifth.

Abbey Coberly was second in the women's 800 meters, running a career-best 2:14.53, finishing ahead of Malena Cybak (season-best 2:16.59) and Miranda Burgett (2:26.18) in fourth and eighth.

A-State placed second in both the women's and men's 4x100-meter relays, recording times of 47.29 and 40.82, respectively.

In the men's triple jump, Matthew Williams earned a runner-up finish by jumping 14.42m (47-3.75). Williams was also one of three Red Wolves with personal-best 100-meter times, led by Christopher Burge's third-place mark of 10.70. Clements was fifth (10.74) and Williams placed 10th (11.07).

Kiara Strayhorn tied for second in the women's high jump with a collegiate-best jump of 1.66m (5-5.25), a height also cleared by Madison Holloway, who recorded a career-best in the event to place fifth. Burgett tied with Izzy Daines for sixth, clearing 1.61m (5-3.5), while Ashley Guadamuz was 10th.

Gavin Schaer placed fourth in the men's high jump, clearing 1.84m (6-0.5).

In the open section of the men's 1500 meters, Andrew Mason placed fifth by running a season-best 4:12.71.

NEXT UP

A-State returns to action Thursday, May 8, with the first day of the Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Championships, held in Harrisonburg, Va.
