BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (2/23/26) – Junior multi-event athlete
Miranda Burgett claimed her first individual conference title as Arkansas State track & field opened competition at the Sun Belt Indoor Track & Field Championships on Monday at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
The Buffalo, N.Y., native tallied 3,937 points and placed inside the top five in each event to secure the top spot by a 36-point margin. The total stands as the second most in A-State's indoor history for the event, topping Allie Hensley's best of 3,875 in 2021.
In addition to Burgett, the Red Wolves had two athletes and two teams record top 10 marks in program indoor history.
Malena Cybak jumped to sixth in the women's 800 meters with a time of 2:12.88 and
Erika Krueger moved to eighth in the women's 5000 meters after clocking in at 17:12.86.
The men's distance medley relay team consisting of
Aviel Gasko,
Bruce Payerli,
Brandon Williams and
Parker Noffz claimed silver with a time of 10:04.48, the sixth fastest in program history. The women's distance medley relay squad consisting of Cybak,
Jada Buggs,
Mia Conroy and
Gracie Jacobs recorded a fourth-place finish after clocking in with the seventh fastest time in program history at 11:54.60.
Colby Eddowes holds second place in the men's heptathlon while
Kercher Herring is not far behind at fifth place with 2,952 points. Three events remain in the heptathlon, starting with the 60-meter hurdles at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 24.
Overall, 13 Red Wolves advanced past the preliminary rounds and will compete in the finals of their respective events in Day 2. As a team, the Red Wolves ended the day at sixth place in the men's events with 23.5 points while the women finished at fifth place with a total of 20.

A-State track and field concludes action at the Sun Belt Indoor Championships on Feb. 24. Events begin at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, and coverage starts at 12:30 p.m. on ESPN+.
