BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (4/2/21) – On Friday at the UAB Spring Invite, several Arkansas State track and field athletes continued their strong start to the season, posting multiple bests and first marks.
The Scarlet and Black tallied seven top-five results on Friday, including a trio of event victories.
Eric Williams posted A-State's first event victory of the afternoon by taking the men's shot put, hurling the implement 15.05m (49-4.5). In the women's shot put, Evangelynn Harris won with a throw of 14.77m (48-5.5) followed by Grace Flowers' season-best mark of 14.31m (46-11.5). Chastery Fuamatu placed sixth, tossing a personal-best 13.50m (44-3.5).
Royce Fisher was the third A-State athlete to be victorious, winning the men's 3000m steeplechase by nearly 40 seconds with a time of 9:36.80.
In the women's 1500m, Elizabeth Martin led four runners with a strong first collegiate outdoor mark of 4:39.21 to place sixth. Her time moved her to eighth in school history. She placed ahead of three Red Wolves who notched personal bests – Kayla Wade (4:46.03), Elizabeth Gillette (4:47.42) and McKenzie Cornell (4:54.26).
Seth Waters then posted a personal best in the men's 1500m, placing third in 3:50.86, which ranks eighth in program history. Gregoire Saury followed in fourth with a time of 3:51.56 that is ninth-best in A-State outdoor history while Bennett Pascoe placed fifth in a collegiate-best 3:52.78.
Allie Hensley registered a personal best in the javelin for the second straight meet, uncorking a throw of 38.23m (125-5.0) to place seventh. Eron Carter opened the day by earning three points in the men's javelin with a throw of 47.04m (154-4.0) to place as the sixth-highest collegian.
