STARKVILLE, Miss. (4/30/21) – It didn't take long for an Arkansas State track and field athlete to shatter the men's 1500m record for the second time this season.
After Bennett Pascoe shattered Bob Giersberg's 53-year-old mark on April 17, Seth Waters bested the record on Friday evening at the Maroon and White Invite with a time of 3:44.32. Behind Waters' third-place finish, Gregoire Saury placed fourth with a time of 3:45.16 that is second-best in program history.
Jermie Walker celebrated his 21st birthday in a big way, clocking a big personal best in the men's 200m. He nearly cracked the 21-second barrier with a time of 21.06 to finish second and move up to eighth in school history.
Sydney Lane cleared a season-best in the women's high jump, earning a second-place finish with a height of 1.71m (5-7.25).
Aimar Palma Simo was the top collegiate finisher in the men's hammer throw, placing third overall with a toss of 64.95m (213-1.0).
In the women's hammer throw, Marie Reed moved into the A-State top 10, throwing 48.49m (159-1.0) to move into 10th all-time in program history. Grace Flowers led the way in that event with a throw of 57.76m (189-6.0) to place fourth.
Courtney Thomas earned a runner-up finish in the men's long jump, leaping 7.13m (23-4.75). In the women's long jump, Allie Hensley once again registered a personal best, jumping an outdoor-best 5.73m (18-9.75).
The Red Wolves posted a solid day in the women's discus throw, led by another victory by Babette Vandeput, who hurled the implement 52.26m (171-5.0). Evangelynn Harris followed in second with a personal-best 49.72m (163-1.0) to move up to sixth in school history. Eron Carter then capped off the day with a victory in the men's discus throw, winning with a mark of 53.12m (174-3.0).
