A-State Posts Strong Marks On First Day Of Spec Towns Invitational

ATHENS, Ga. (4/9/21) – A combined 10 personal bests highlighted Arkansas State track and field's first day of action at the Spec Towns Invitational on Friday.

Several Red Wolves posted marks that moved them up in the Sun Belt Conference leaderboards. Bradley Jelmert vaulted up in the men's pole vault with an impressive personal-best of 5.25m (17-2.75), while Carter Shell bested his previous outdoor-best in the long jump by nearly 30cm with a leap of 7.96m (26-1.5). Shell's mark also moved him into a tie for second in program history in the event.

In the women's pole vault, Avery Shell cleared a personal-best 3.95m (12-11.5) that moved her into a tie for sixth in A-State outdoor history, placing third in the event.

Allie Hensley also posted a personal-best performance in the third consecutive meet, throwing 38.30m (125-8.0) in the women's javelin.

Gregoire Saury opened up the day for A-State with a third-place finish in the men's 1500m, running a personal-best 3:50.70 that moved him up to eighth in school history in the event. Seth Waters placed eighth (3:59.28) while Coleman Wilson clocked a personal-best 4:01.39. McKenzie Cornell also notched a PR in the women's 1500m with a time of 4:53.25.

In the men's 200m, Jermie Walker placed third with a mark of 21.20 while Blaique Webster clocked a personal-best 25.44 in the women's race.

Closing out the day in the hammer throw, Aimar Palma Simo placed third with a toss of 63.10m (207-0.0) while Eron Carter improved his career best with a throw of 60.50m (198-6.0) that ranks sixth in school history.

Grace Flowers earned a third-place finish in the women's hammer throw, uncorking a toss of 54.92m (180-2.0). Chastery Fuamatu placed fifth with a throw of 51.71m (169-8.0) while Hannah Higgins hurled a season-best 50.41m (165-4.0) to place sixth.

NEXT UP

A-State continues action at the Spec Towns Invitational on Saturday, while other Red Wolves will remain in the Natural State at the Little Rock Open. Later Saturday evening, a host of distance runners will race at the Wichita State Open.
