ST. LOUIS (4/1/22) – Arkansas State track and field's distance athletes did not play around on April Fools' Day, with five athletes moving up in the all-time top-10 in multiple events Friday night at the Washington University Distance Carnival in St. Louis.
Kayla Wade opened with an eighth-place overall finish in the women's 5000m, crossing the line in a personal-best 17:03.77 to rank sixth in school history.
2021 steeplechase All-American and Sun Belt Conference Champion Bennett Pascoe seemingly picked up from where he left off, winning the event on Friday night by over 14 seconds with a time of 9:00.43. Grayson Young placed eighth, finishing in 9:27.55.
In the women's steeplechase, Elizabeth Martin earned a runner-up finish and moved up to fifth in school history with a mark of 10:54.81. Sophia Oury placed third, crossing in 11:02.20.
A trio of runners closed out the night in the 10,000m, led by Jacob Pyeatt, who posted the No. 2 mark in program history in the event. The Mountain Home, Ark., native finished fourth overall with a time of 29:45.36. Coleman Wilson placed 16th, finishing in 30:42.79 while Nathan Herbst crossed the finish in 30:51.24 to rank fifth and seventh in school history, respectively.
