FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (4/8/22) – The Arkansas State track and field teams battled near-freezing conditions at the John McDonnell Invitational on Friday, with several athletes posting personal and season-best marks.
Due to the cold and inclement wind conditions, A-State did not compete in sprint, hurdles, and jumps events, but still managed to post strong marks in the throws and distance competitions.
On Thursday in Fayetteville, Chastery Fuamatu got the Red Wolves off to a strong start in the women's hammer throw, placing fifth with a personal-best toss of 56.11m (184-1.0). Madison Collier also hurled a personal-best with a mark of 49.63m (162-10.0), which was good enough to tie for 10th all-time. Aimar Palma Simo earned a top-five finish in the men's competition, throwing 63.78m (209-3.0).
Friday began with Evangelynn Harris earning a runner-up finish in the women's discus, throwing 47.57m (156-1.0). Fuamatu placed fifth with a throw of 46.14m (151-4.0), while Collier posted another best of 41.55m (136-4.0).
