Coach Temp donned the scarlet and black as a player, coach, and administrator. The former Pocahontas Redskin played three seasons for ASU as a running back. He led the Indians in rushing in 1954.

Templeton also spent part of his career coaching in Northeast Arkansas. He was an assistant coach at Osceola, Kennett, and Blytheville. He was the Chickasaws head coach from 1962 to 1964, finishing state runner-up in 1964.

Templeton returned to his alma mater in 1965, serving as an assistant coach for 13 seasons under Bennie Ellender and Bill Davidson. During his time as an assistant, he coached ASU's offensive backfield in three Pecan Bowl games (1968-69-70).

Coach Temp spent the past 36 years working with the Red Wolf Foundation (formerly Red Wolf Club and Indian Club) in some capacity. He served as the Indian Club Director and Coordinator, Director of Major Gifts, and the Director of Planned Giving for ASU's athletic booster organization.  During his time as Director and Coordinator of the Indian Club, he developed an endowment scholarship fund of over one-and-a-half million dollars and helped to rebuild the membership base.
