Football starter during 1928 and 1929 seasons for Arkansas State "Gorillas" . . . only member of squad to play every minute of every game both season, going both ways . . . named Most Valuable Player on both teams . . . Honorable Mention All-State both years . . . "unequaled in the state as a center," said a Little Rock newspaper . . . called "the keystone" of the team by the Memphis Commercial Appeal, which also said, "He consistently outplayed the big boys who faced him. What he lacked in six, he made up in headwork and fight." . . . also played during the 1927 season . . . played center on offense and linebacker on defense . . . one newspaper account stated, "others tried to emulate him, but none got the results Oldham did." . . . centers in those days, called snapperbacks, had to snap the ball to moving halfbacks in motion and then handle blocking duties . . . played in first night game in Arkansas (ASU vs Lambuth in September 1929) . . . also lettered three years as catcher for baseball team.
