Inducted in 1991, Preston celebrated a successful career on the A-State track and field team. He holds the indoor record in the 55 meter dash with a time of 6.14 seconds set in 1976. His mark of 47.94 in the 400 meter dash ranks ninth in the A-State indoor men’s record book.

He also holds an outdoor A-State record with his time of 20.14 seconds in the 200 meter dash set in 1976. His mark of 46.94 seconds in the 400 meter dash ranks ninth all-time in the outdoor record book and his time of 10.05 seconds in the 100 meter dash continues to rank second all-time.
