Hines was inducted into the A-State Hall of Honor in 1996 after a four-year career on the football team from 1972-75. In 1975, Hines rushed for a career-high four touchdowns against Northwestern State. That total is the fourth-most in a single game in program history. 

That season, Hines finished with 16 total rushing touchdowns, a mark that ranks in a tie for third in program history. He also threw for 395 yards that year. He finished the year coined as the Southland Conference Offensive Player of the Year. 

In 1972, Hines posted a punt return average of 12.3 per return, a mark that continues to rank sixth all-time in a single season. He finished as a Second-Team All-Southland Conference selection that year.
