ASU To Honor Jerry Rook at Saturday?s Game

Rook played at ASU from 1961 to 1965 and remains the school's leading scorer today with 2,153 points in his career.  He was a two-time All-American selection and was named Southland Conference MVP in 1965. 
 
The former Indian still holds several other records at ASU.  Rook sits with the third-best rebounding average in school history with 9.5 for his career.  His 896 career rebounds rank fourth all-time at ASU.  He has both attempted and made the most field goals of any ASU player shooting 816-1,760 over his career.  Rook also attempted and made the most free throws shooting 521-657 from the charity stripe.
 
In season records, Rook sits at second in scoring average with 25.3 points per game during the 1963-64 season.  He also claimed the fourth spot with 23.1 in 1964-65 and the fifth spot in 1962-63 with an average of 22.9.  He holds both the third and fourth ranks in total points in a season with 633 in 1963-64 and 596 in 1962-63.  At sixth in season free throw percentage, Rook shot .867 during the 1964-65 season.
 
After his career at Arkansas State, Rook was drafted by the NBA's Baltimore Bullets in 1965 but chose to return to Jonesboro to coach at Nettleton.  After three years of coaching, he played for the American Basketball Association's New Orleans Buccaneers during the 1969-70 season.  Rook came back to Arkansas to coach for 39 years before retiring from Brookland.
