Inducted in the Hall of Honor in 1991, Meyer was a stellar defensive player from 1968-71 for A-State. His mark of 11 interceptions during the 1970 season continues to stand as the most interceptions in program history. He finished his career with 27 total interceptions. 

In 1971, Meyer earned First-Team All-America honors with the Associated Press and AFCA. He was an Associated Press Second-Team All-America selection the year prior and earned back-to-back Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Year honors in 1970 and 1971. 

Meyer is also one of three A-State football players in program history to earn the NCAA Post Graduate Scholarship. He was drafted in the 6th round by the Pittsburgh Steelers in 1973.
