Inducted into the A-State Hall of Honor in 1988, Weir was a letterwinner and assistant coach with the football program. 

Weir competed for three seasons at A-State from 1960-62 before becoming a free agent signee with the Oilers in 1962. He returned to A-State as an assistant from 1971 to 1972. 

In 1962, Weir led the team offensively with 788 yards of total offense, 418 on the ground and 370 through the air. Weir was named a Williamson Honorable Mention All-American in 1962.
