Carthon was inducted into the Arkansas State Hall of Honor in 1991 and added to those accolades with a 2002 induction into the A-State Ring of Honor. Carthon was a star running back for the Indians from 1979-82.

Carthon was Arkansas State’s lead rusher in 1981 and 1982, racking up 678 and 682 yards on the ground, respectively. At the conclusion of the 1981 season, Carthon was tabbed First-Team All-Southland Conference as a fullback. He followed that up with a Second-Team All-Southland Conference selection in 1982. 

Prior to his Hall of Honor and Ring of Honor selection, Carthon was named to the A-State 1980’s All-Decade Team as selected by the coaching staff. 

Carthon enjoyed an NFL career that spanned seven years with two teams (Giants and Colts). He made four total appearances in the Super Bowl (two as a player and two as a coach) with two Super Bowl rings to his name (XXI and XXV).
